Frequently asked questions
What markets are supported?
WeLab Bank currently supports trading in both the Hong Kong and U.S. stock markets. However, please note that WeLab Bank does not currently support the following:
• Grey market trading
• Over-the-counter trading
What order types are supported?
- Hong Kong and U.S. markets: Market orders, Limit orders, Conditional (Stop-Loss) orders.
- Hong Kong market only: Auction orders, Auction Limit orders, Odd lot orders.
- U.S. market only: Fractional share trading.
- A market order is an order to buy or sell securities at the prevailing market price immediately without setting a limit price. Market order is prioritised for execution but the execution price may materially differ from the last displayed price due to market volatility.
- A limit order is to allow an input of specific price in the order such that, if the order executes, the execution price will not be worse than the specified limit price. Limit order may not be executed if the market price does not reach the specified limit price.
- A stop-Loss order is to automatically sell when its price drops below the trigger price set in the order instruction. Once triggered, the order will generally be submitted as a market order, and the final execution price may be significantly different from the trigger price under volatile market conditions.
- Auction order and Auction Limit order are specialized market order and limit order types used during specific auction phases, like the Pre-opening Session or Closing Auction Session. Execution of auction-related orders depends on final matching during the auction session and is not guaranteed.
- Odd lots are securities that are less than a board lot. Odd lot prices are generally less favourable than board lot prices and liquidity may be lower, resulting in wider bid/ask spreads.
- Fractional share orders may be aggregated and executed differently from whole share orders. They may also have limitations on transferability and execution timing.
- Short selling order instructions for both Hong Kong and U.S. markets are not supported.
- WeLab Bank does not guarantee that every order can be executed. The final transaction amount will be based on the actual execution price. Orders may be partially executed depending on market liquidity. The remaining quantity will remain active based on the order type and validity period.
What documents are required to open an investment account for securities trading?
- Address proof issued within last three months (only for Exchange-traded securities services)
- Employer Consent Letter (only applicable to employees of licensed corporations or registered institutions under the Securities and Futures Ordinance)
Does WeLab Bank App support intraday trading for Hong Kong and U.S. stocks?

Investment involves risks. Past performance of investment products may not be indicative of future performance. The prices of securities fluctuate, sometimes dramatically. The price of a security may move up or down, and may become valueless. It is as likely that losses will be incurred rather than profit made as a result of buying and selling securities. Please read the relevant terms, fee schedule and risk disclosure statements before investing.
